Background

Hemorrhagic stroke patients, including those with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), often present to the Emergency Department in critical condition, requiring expedited and efficient evaluation and treatment, including CT neuroimaging and the use of therapies designed to mitigate the effects of the hemorrhage.

Dr. Schellinger will review the principles that guide the interpretation of CT neuroimaging in the setting of suspected hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This lecture is designed to enhance the ability of emergency physicians to provide a preliminary interpretation of head CTs so that effective communication, consultation, and patient treatment can take place.
