Learning Objectives:

Discuss the development of clinical polices and their relevance to clinical practice in the Emergency Department.
Describe the recommended treatment strategies of ED patients who present with seizures and SE, based on the 2004 ACEP clinical policy.
Examine ways in which guidelines, protocols and clinical policies can be utilized to improve the ED care of seizure and SE patients within institutions given the ACEP clinical policy and clinical data not included in this consensus document.
